3 Nights & 3 Rounds of Golf from € 903 per person
On arrival to Shannon Airport you will be met by a Tailor-Made Golf Tours representative and your chauffeur if applicable. After the tour bus has been loaded or your self-drive vehicle collected the journey to Galway Bay G.C. will take 1 hour.
Galway Bay is a dramatic course where the name comes from the natural water hazard of the same name which provides the backdrop to this Par 72 PGA Championship golf course. When designing the course, former Ryder Cup and World Cup golfer Christy O'Connor Jnr superbly blended the stunning backdrop of Galway Bay and the rugged curves of the Atlantic coastline with mature trees, water hazards, concealed bunkers and highly acclaimed putting surfaces. The course was redesigned in 2008 to provide more visibility of the surrounding ocean and provide a more links like feel with remodelled greens that feature increased mounding and run off areas. With variable wind speed and directions the course plays differently each day posing a considerable challenge to even the lowest handicap golfers, yet it is a true and fair test of golf.
After golf the transfer to Galway City will take 30 minutes.
Galway is Ireland's best city mainly due to the chilled and relaxed atmosphere along its pedestrian streets where there are mnay pubs and restaurants and much 'ceol agus craic'. Galway a popular destination and there are plenty of quality accommodations to choose from.
Connemara G.C. is almost at the most southwestern point of County Galway, 3½ miles west of the vaillage of Ballyconneely. The journey from Galway city take 1½ scenic hours.
Connemara Golf Club is a true links course situated on the western coast of County Galway. The scenery is stunning on a sunny day with the Atlantic to the west and south and the rugged Twelve Bens and Maamturk mountain ranges to the east. The 'gentle' opening offers a chance to start well and to put some decent numbers on the card. Given this chance to warm-up, this great links slowly starts to turn the screw with a fabulous stretch of holes from the 8th to the 18th. The par-3 13th is a beautiful golf hole and in many people's opinion Connemara's signature hole. Standing on the tee you know you need a pure strike on the ball to get on the green. Anything short will roll back 30 yards and anything left or right will be gathered by bunkers. Unusually, there are two magnificent Par-5's to finish and you can be guaranteed one of them will be into a sea breeze. Peter Allis commented "If there were a course like this on the west coast of England it would surely host a British Open"
The pretty village of Roundstone is worth visiting and marks the start of a route that has endless possibilities through the southern Connemara region to Galway. Alternatively return through Clifden, the 'Capital of Connemara' and take a trip through 'Joyce Country', the interior rugged mountain landscape of Connemara. End at the famous village of Cong, between Lough Mask and Lough Corrib where the movile 'The Quiet Man' was filmed.
A direct journey from Galway to Lahinch (M18 to Ennis) takes 1½ hours. A scenic diversion at Gort offers a trip across a lesser travelled part of The Burren without losing time.
Many visitors favourite Irish links is the Old Course at Lahinch. First played in 1892, Lahinch was founded by members of the British Army's Black Watch Regiment and local businessmen. The present site was chosen over the site of the current Doonbeg links because of the proximity of a railway station. It ws remodelled in 1894 by Old Tom Morris - the famous Klondyke (4th) and Dell (5th) holes still remain today. In 1927 Dr. Alister Mackenzie laid out the present day course before going on to design Augusta National, Pebble Beach and Cypress Point in the U.S.A. Remembered principally for the "Klondyke" (4th) a par-5 where a huge sand bank must be negotiated and the following "Dell" hole, Lahinch offers a variety of challenging, true links holes. There are several excellent par-4's including the 1st, 6th, 7th, 12th and 15-17. However our favourite is the 3rd - a contender for the best in Ireland.
A sightseeing return to Galway via the heart of The Burren begins with a choice of routes to Ballyvaughan. The first option is to visit the Cliffs of Moher and Doolin before taking the spectacuar coast road past fanore and Black Head. The alternative is perhaps to visit The Burren Centre at Kilfenora and then an interior route, including Poulnabrone and Castleconnell, that provides a true sense of the Burren landscape. Ballyvaughan is another seaside village most noted for the seafood served at Monk's Bar & Restaurant. Fuirther east, Kinvara is a small village at the head of a sheltered harbour famous for the Galway Hooker sailing boat.
After a final night in Galway the journey to Shannon Airport will take 1¼ hours.
