Rosslare Golf Club - Par 72 - 6,821 Yards
Rosslare Golf Club is the only championship golf links in southeast Ireland but it is of the higest calibre. A traditional layout amongst low dunes and undulating fairways, Rosslare is always excellently maintained. The course underwent major redevelopment in the 1980's with the construction of several new tees and greens and the installtion of a watering system that is often needed here in the "Sunny Southeast".
The course itself is an excellent links test, offering the traditional outward and inward halves with the inward half, playing alongside the beach for much of its course, probably the favoured nine in terms of golf quality.
There are several outstanding holes, the par-4 fifth and par-5 5th on the outward journey and the splendid 469 yard, par-4 11th that features a blind apporach shot over 'the barbers pole'. The finish at Rosslare is especially demanding, three par-4's from 15 to 17 are classic links holes and require precision and accuracy to negotiate in regulation. The par-5 eighteenth is a slight blemish on the Rosslare scoresheet but is noetheless a hole that requires full concentration to avoid a closing bogey.
Although towards the lower end of Ireland's league of great links courses, Rosslare nevertheless belongs in that league and should not be missed by visitors to the southeast.
