Royal County Down, New 16th Hole Opened 19th November 2004: The goal was to retain the character of the hole as a great matchplay hole while increasing the visibility of the mountains as a backdrop. The hole remains the shortest par-4 on the course and now features bunkers and undulations that require precise planning off the tee in order to lay up on a flat area. However at 319 yards from the medal tee, there is also an option to rip it down the left hand side and try to let it feed in towards the well-protected green. Sandwiched between the 450yard par-4 15th and 400 yard par-4 17th, the sixteenth is an opportunity to make a par or better - but beware the cunning run-offs from the green.
